Sharing internet and files on two win XP

I have two XP computers which I would like to share internet connection and share files.

I've installed broadband on computer A and it's working properly. I've already got a network card for each computer.

I followed the wizard to set up the connection on both computers but still find a dead end.

In Network Connections in computer A, there are "Local Area Connection(WAN)" and Local Area Connection". I believe the former is used for the broadband and the latter one used for local networking - which will be used to share internet and files to computer B.

When I on of Computer B, a message pop up in computer A saying
"Local Area Connection is now connected
Speed: 100Mbps"

This tells there is a connection between the two computers but I can't surf the internet on Computer B

What about IP address for WAN, Gateway and LAN for both computers?

Don't haste to ask for more details. Any help is appreciated.

From the sounds of it you have a modem connection and you are using the NIC as the network connection. I'm assuming you are just using a direct connection between the two computers rather than a hub.

Computer A needs to be the "router" in this situation. So, you would probably need to setup internet connection sharing on computer A.

Another way to do it would be to install some sort of routing software on Computer A, such as AnalogX's proxy server or Nat32. You would then specify Computer A's ip address as the gateway in Computer B.

what is confusing about your post gmhafiz is that you don't mention HOW your broadband is connected. USB? NIC?

Normally you have two nic cards in the workstation that is going to act as the router [ICS]. Your broadband goes to one nic and the other nic connects to the other wrksts nic. Packet forwarding is enabled between the nics on the router.

Do a google search on using ICS for more details.

I have two network cards on computer A, one for the broadband and the other one is for local area connection. On computer B, i have one network card for LAN purpose.

I tried using AnalogX proxy. Below is the ip configuration, from TCP/IP

Computer A:
WAN
IP: 192.168.1.2
Gateway: 182.168.1.1

LAN: 192.167.1.3

Computer B:
IP 192.168.1.4
Gateway: 192.168.1.3

The subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

When computer A is connected to the internet, on My Network Places in Computer B, under Internet Gateway, I can see computer A is connected to the internet. I can see how much data is downloded and uploaded .

AnalogX is on but still no internet connection on computer B.

Note:
It is not USB but I don't know about NIC. The cable looks like a large telephone cable.

The proxy's proxy.txt file look like for windows 98 computer. I'm using win xp

True, there is no hub. It is direct connection.

To use AnalogX you'll need to go into the Internet options and set the proxy option to the computer with Analog X installed.

I found out that there were three network cards in Computer A. Windows can only support up to two network cards only. That is the cause why I can't share internet connection.

The extra card has been removed and everything is working fine. There is no need to use the proxy.

I am not sure if you have sorted this yet, the one item missing here is you must use a crossover cable, I made the same connection between my two xp (pro) machines without any probs.

Can I share internet on XP with two NICs?

Hi!

I have two laptops that were previously connected using a switch and the network connection was shared fine (it was a DSL modem).

Now, I have a new broadband connection that connects directly to laptop A that has two NICs. One is for the internet and the other goes to the switch where laptop B also connects.

But I do not seem to be able to get internet sharing to work.

Must I use a router?! I hope not......

Help

Thanks

Ari
