Can you access http://66.102.11.104 from the second computer? If you can, you have a DNS problem (you can't convert domain names into IP addresses). Go to your ISPs website and find the addresses of their two DNS servers. Then, on the XP pro computer open up Network Connections from the Control Panel. Right-click your Local Area Connection and select Properties. Double click Internet Protocol TCP/IP and in the bottom part of the new window, enter in the IP addresses of the two DNS servers. Once you've done this, try accessing a page like www.google.com

Check that from the second computer you can ping the address of the computer with the Internet connection (probably 192.168.0.1). In Network Connections, right-click the Local Area Connection and double click Internet Protocol TCP/IP. Check that the default gateway field is filled with the IP address of the other computer.

In Internet Explorer, you don't really need to make many changes. Open Internet Options and select the Connections tab. If you have any dial-up connections, make sure that "Never dial a connection" is selected. In LAN Settings, everything should probably be unticked - you most definitely don't want to use a proxy server. If this doesn't work, try ticking the option "Automatically detect settings" only.

HTH,

Edwin

Have you set the default gateway to the IP address of the computer with the Internet connection? (see my previous post for details)

Double check that on computer A (with the Internet connection) if you right-click the Internet connection and select Properties and select the Advanced tab Internet Connection Sharing should be enabled.

Also check that on the second computer you haven't set Internet Explorer to use a proxy or anything (check the 4th post of this thread).

If it still doesn't work, either accessing the address http://66.102.11.104 or www.google.com can you click Start, Run and type "ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt" (without the quotes). Do this on both computers then copy the contents of the two ipconfig.txt files into your next post.

That info looks good.

Can you double check that when you open Network Connections, right-click the Local Area Connection, select Properties and click the Advanced tab that Internet Connection Firewall is disabled on both computers. Also make sure you disable any third-party firewalls (such as ZoneAlarm)for the time being.

I'm sure you've done this right, but you have enabled Internet Connection Sharing on the mydsl2 connection, rather than the Local Area Connection, haven't you?

Going back to your first post, you have an ADSL router plugged into a switch. Could you not connect directly to the Internet through the router. If you go to the web admin interface for the router, there should be an option to turn on the DHCP server. Enable this and then set the two client computers to obtain their IP addresses from a DHCP server. Make sure that you disable Internet Connection Sharing, or there'll be two DHCP servers on the network.

Restart the two computers and check in Network Connections that they have obtained an IP address from the router. They should have an IP address and a default gateway which should point to the router. This should be all you need to do to access the Internet - hopefully the router should give the clients all the information they need.

I would have thought this way should be simpler, and it would mean that the second computer could access the Internet without the first computer being turned on.
