Hey guys, I was wondering if anybody can help me out with my problem.
My cable modem is connected to a linksys switch. My pc is connected to that linksys switch. I am using DHCP. My PC works fine, I can use internet, and see all other computers on the network. (settings obtain IP auto, obtain DNS server auto) My problem is that sometimes my friend bring his PC over to see if I can fix his computer problem and I would like to give his PC internet access without removing the Cat5 cable going to my PC, or passing another cable from my room to the switch (which is far, downstairs, 100ft). I have 2 network cards in my PC, and would like to use a cross-over cable to go from my NIC #2, to my friends NIC, and gave his PC access to the network/internet access. Both PC's have WinXP. I tried a few things but didn't really work. Can anyone detail steps (for both PC's) for me to try to get this working? Thanks guys |

With Win XP this should be easy. Open up Network Connections from the Control Panel and you should see two connections (probably Local Area Connection and Local Area Connection 2). Select them both, then right click on one of them. Select the Bridge Connections open. This should do what you want.

Hi,
Couldn't you just get a router for $20 and jsut plug your modem in it, and plug in both pcs. I really think networking is a bunch of BS, because you have to get them all to interact. When you have 2 or 3 different OSs it gets really tough. I'm having a hard time with my crossover from 1 pc to another. I have a 2000 and 98. It's a nightmare, Goodluck Alan |

It can be difficult to begin with, yes
![]() You could buy a router, or even just another switch/hub, but since he's already got two NICs, it should be pretty easy just to enable a bridge between them. |
