Sniffer
Does anyone know of a packet sniffer that will work over a switched ethernet network.

Did you try the pig? http://www.snort.org
Its a sniffer, a logger and a pro-active IDS system. In fact it pretty much does everything but get up and make the tea the next morning. You can set the home networks' class and range as command line options. It's built for *nix but there's a Win32 version available too. |

Snort will, but if you have managed switches just enable port monitoring, you can add multiple ports to one also. This is kinda more controlled. you really should have an idea what it is you want to monitor otherwise your log will be so big it would take forever to sort through hehe.
