Still can't see my computers
Hello, I'm running Windows 2000 Server that runs DHCP and DNS for a bunch of different workstations. I have an address pool of 10.10.10.x for each workstation and printer. I'm actually very new at this and have taken over the job of sysadmin.....eeek! Anyays, I can't see but one other computer from the DHCP settings. I know there is a computer 10.10.10.57 amonst others, which i can ping and get back a response. However, how can I *see* all these computers to 'administer' them? I have a domain running so shouldn't I be able (as the server) to see everyone logged onto the domain. If these questions are too broad, can anyone suggest a nice tutorial for a newb
Thanks in advance! Also, I've got a wireless access point running off the switch that's hooked to the server. This router uses the IP 192.168.2.1 for it's web configuration. I can't access this IP from anywhere unless I take the computer offline. Is there a way I can configure the server/dhcp/dns to allow this incoming connection? Thanks so much! As long as the clients have their IP addresses set to obtain from the DHCP server they should get addresses in the range 10.10.10.x. Try pinging them even if they don't appear in the DHCP server console. On the clients, try running "ipconfig /all" (without the quotes) from the Command Line, and check that they have their IP addresses OK, and they are configured to use the DHCP server.

How do you want to administer them? As long as they are communicating OK (ping etc.) you can open up Computer Management, right-click where it says "Computer Management (Local)" in the left hand pane and select Connect to another computer. You should then be able to type in the computer name and as long as you have permission, you should be able to administer it. With regards your router, it's on a completely different subnet. The best way to access it is to probably change it to 10.10.10.x (probably through the web admin interface). |
