sysncing files across netowrk...
rite then....
i'd like to sync some files on my laptop with some on my desktop so that when i am on the move i can work on stuff and then wen i get home the desktop can be updated so i can contnue on that!! yes i could do it manually but that is a pain and a waste of time !! is there any software available for this?? Ideally free obviously but a small cost could be acceptable for a usful facility such as this... i have been looking around but have been unsuccessful so far.. generally syncing various files and folders from selected drives on the desktop to a place on the laptop. an advantage but not necessary would be to also sync outlook 2003 emails etc.. thanks in advance to any suggestions ![]() RF |

Hi RF (again!)
Try looking at this site: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...fflinefiles.asp I don't know what version of Windows you have. If you use XP Pro, then the link above will help, and you can use the built-in feature Offline Files. This doesn't come with XP home though. I'm not sure about emails though - I'll give it some thought... |

The briefcase is exactly like a real briefcase. On your desktop computer, you would create a new briefcase. Then you would drag any files you want on your laptop into the briefcase. Once you have chosen all of your files, you would copy the whole briefcase file onto your laptop.
On the laptop, you can view the contents of the briefcase in Windows Explorer. You can open each file and make any changes that you want. Then, you copy the briefcase back onto the desktop and click the Update all items to sychronise the changes back to the original files. I agree that it's not perhaps what you want. Why don't you look at SysSync (http://www.focussoftware.co.uk/syssync/). The description sounds good and you can download a free trial. It only costs $12.50! |

I think that it should work fine. Looking at the screenshots I hope that it'll do everything you need.

Is the networking working again, or do we need to start troubleshooting?
