traceroute

Hi everyone,

I recently purchased a wifi card, intending to set up an AP in my apartment. But when I set up the client with dhcp, it doesn't find my AP, it actually found another AP with no wep set up and I was able to get on the net.

I tried to use traceroute to figure out where I'm getting this access from (I'm just curious. There's a guy down the street who offers a free spot, but I think he's out of range. So I think it's probably just someone in the building who has no wep).

Anyway, traceroute just returned * * * * for the first 10 locations and then I stopped it. How can I get around this and figure out where my internet is coming from?

type ipconfig and your default gateway will be the inside address of his router. sounds like his firewall is blocking ICMP so trace is not going to work. do a netbios sweep and see if the name of his computer is anyone you know.
