Trying to share dial up connection
Hello!
I'm trying to network two WinXP PC's with a dial up connection. I made one PC the host and it has a modem and a NIC. The client has a modem, but I disabled it. I installed a NIC in the client, installed software for both and have them in the network connections. My problem is, when I go to enable ICS by going to the properties > advanced tab, the only thing I see is the internet connection firewall listed. The ICS should be under that. But it is not there. Is there a way to enable this or something to make it appear or is there aother way to turn on ICS? The host can access the Internet, but the client cannot. On the client, I can ping he lopback address and get reply. I ran the network wizard nd still couldn't get the client to work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. |

I'm not sure if this is the answer your looking for, but.. Windows XP gives you the option to install ICS or not to, I'm not exactly sure if they install it by default of what, cause I've never really used it. But goto your Control Panel, and add or remove programs / Add Remove windows components, and maybe check somewhere in there. I just recently installed SP2 on my XP Home machine which I'm using now, so I don't know if it made an impact on how my ICS works, but if I goto my Wizard it gives me the option to use ICS. Or try it on a different machine, (The client machine) and set it up so that .. that computer is the client and recieves the internet from another machine, and make that "Home Networking Disk" and run it on your Host machine (The one with the dialup internet) this should work just fine.
