Tunnel through WiFi hotspot
I have read alot about WiFi and 802.11b. I have a huge 802.11b network at my house and am very familiar with networking and stuff. My question relates to public WiFi. I live in santa monica, CA. on the street i live off of, there are two starbucks with in 6 blocks of each other (???). anways, i know they offer wifi access but charge for it. I was thinking about tunneling through it and using it for free. I haven't tried anything yet but i was thinking about using tightVNC and tunneling through port 53 because all other ports are probably blocked. Anyone who knows how to do this please give some hints.

It is possible to use tightVNC and setup sshd to use port 53. Before you could even attempt to tunnel through their network you would need to connect to it first. Just throwing out packets on port 53 won't give you any access. I doubt you would easily be able to get your traffic to pass through the WiFi network without having first authenticated with the SSL server that T-Mobile uses for authentication. T-Mobile Hotspots don't use WEP but the networks are still slightly secured. There is no completely secure network and I'm sure with the proper tools and knowledge you could establish a connection. But I wont provide you that information because its unethical and illegal. Bottom line...pay for the service or garner the knowledge somewhere else.

Well from my experience, T-Mobile just re-routs all port 80 attempts to a login page if you are not logged in. But I think using AirSnort, I could easily get access and then tunnel through. I have no use for this seeing as I hate coffee and don't have a laptop. I was just wondering. It was a question that crossed my mind and I wondered how it could be done.
