Wierd problem
Hey there,
I'm new to this forum but I hope you can help with me a very very annoying problem. My laptop keeps disconnecting from the internet, it's not because I have a weak connection, it says I have a Very Good or Excellant all the time but it keeps disconnecting. I'm using a BT Home hub and a router, we have 4 other laptops connected to it 2 of which are Macs which for some reason are working fine and we have another Windows XP which has the same problems. It's becoming an extreme annoyance, I haven't got the techniqual know how on how to fix it, I've taken it to Bellvile to see if they can fix it twice but still nothing (Although they were happy to still charge us about £100 each visit ) and it is really cutting into my school work. I can't assess the schools main frame long enough to download my coursework so I have to do it all at school which as you can imagine is a real problem. Here is a collection of screenshots of my current settings to help and see if there is anything you can see which shouldn't be: (Unable to post at the moment because of New User rules) I hope this can help. To reconnect my laptop I change my authentication from Shared to Open and click ok then repeat it but putting it back to Shared. This works 100% but it still disconnects after a few minutes. In fact it's disconnected twice just by writing this post. Here is a solution someone has told me but I am unsure as to what he means: Quote:
I've tried to fix it but I have no idea what he means or how to fix it. I don't know how to get to the broadcast to check if its SSID and I don't know how to change it. Thats the problem, if anyone can help I'd be extremely grateful. Thanks x. Edit - After looking through some other threads I'm hoping this could help: Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : KIMS_MOBILE Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown IP Routing Enabled. . . . . . . . : Yes WINS Proxy Enabled. . . . . . . . : No DNS Suffix Search List. . . . . . : home Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection 3: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-0F-B0-73-86-30 Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : Ethernet adapter Wireless Network Connection 2: Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : home Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Broadcom 802.11b/g WLAN Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 00-14-A5-18-22-0F Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.75 Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0 Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254 DHCP Server . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254 DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.254 Lease Obtained. . . . . . . . . . : 19 April 2008 17:57:18 Lease Expires . . . . . . . . . . : 20 April 2008 17:57:18 |
