Windows 2000 Advance Server unable to browse website

My win2K server is able to ping, tracert and receiving pop3 mail but unable to browse any website. I don't have any firewall, antivirus or adware protection on it.

Can you someone please shed some light here please?

    Thanks,
    Ed

What web browser are you using and what happens when you try to open a website?

sounds like some kind of network problem. Are you browsing from the w2k server or browsing from another workstation to the w2k server?

in win2000 server [and newer server version] you have to turn OFF the "internet explorer enhanced security" option in order to browse internet.
this LINK is for win2k3server , but, should work for win2k server.

sorry about that..I just fired up a vmware image of win2k server and found that you are correct..it doesn't have that feature in 2k server.

Are you still running IE5 on that server?

Try installing firefox or chrome on the server and see if you can use one of those browsers successfully.

    Dns?

It could be a DNS issue. Does Google show if you browse to 74.125.228.4

    1) I am using IE6

    2) I tried Firefox and no go too.

    3) No it's not DNS issue as I can ping and tracert site no problem.
I did try using IP and no page show as expected.

You're going to have to give more specific details about your problem. Describe exactly how you're trying to browse to a website and what exactly happens.

    Tracert no problem too:

    Trace complete.

When I try to browse yahoo.com in IE6 or Firefox, it only say in the status: Opening page http:\\www.yahoo.com... and nothing is loaded.

There isn't any proxy setting in the Internet Option and so no proxy on Firefox too.

There is no fire wall or antivirus software on this server at all as I removed them just to troubleshoot.
