windows XP Networking
I am using windows xp and when I try to access files on one of my other computers I get a message access denied why do I need to go share every folder when I have already shared C:\ drive. Is there a way to share the whole computer. Thanks

If you get an access denied message, make sure that on both computers you are using an account with exactly the same username and password.
If you've shared the whole of the c drive, you should be able to go to \\computername\c to access the whole of the drive. |

you have to make sure that all permisions are set to be inherited by all child objects, were as C:\ is the parent and all other folders are the child ojects. Also usually the C:\ drive is shared for admin purposes only, you need to select new share, you will know if you have shared the drive out, you will have a hand under the drive icon indicating that the drive is shared. SO when you go to explorer or my computer, right click the C:\ drive icon and click share/security, if you see a C$ and below it says default share then you have not shared the drive. Look further down and click new share and name it something other than C, and set all the permissions, and again as Edwin says make sure you have an account that has permissions to access these shares. This will work!!
Hope this helps -DudeDomain |
