Windows XP PRO Networking Problem

I have 2 PCs both running XP Pro. PC 1 is connected to the net, and PC 2 is connected via PC 1..

I have file and print sharing enabled on both PCs and everything was working fine till I reformatted PC 2. Now, the internet connection sharing still works, but when I try to access PC 2 from PC 1, a box pops up asking for a username and password.!?

This has never happened before in the past. Could someone help me please ?

An easier way to see my problem is this.

SETUP:

machine 1 (XP PRO):
name: PC1
workgroup: HOME
IP: 192.168.0.1
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

machine 2 (XP PRO):
name: PC2
workgroup: HOME
IP: 192.168.0.2
Subnet: 255.255.255.0

connected via cross over cable

PROBLEM:

I can connect to PC1 ok using PC2
however i cannot access PC2 using PC1

When using PC1 and trying to connect to PC2 i get an authentication box pop up to logon

Both machines have just one user account with no password

how can i get around this problem?!? help much appreciated, thanks

When you browse to PC 2 from PC 1 do you see the shared folder? Or do you see nothing. It sounds like you have explicit permissions applied either on your shared folder or the files within it. Instead you shoulld be using the everyone account to grant anonymous access. Are you using simple file sharing? Is your drive partitoned with NTFS? If your using simple file sharing turn it off.
start> controll panel>folder options>View>Scroll to the bottom of advanced settings and uncheck use simple file sharing. Next open widndows explorer.Navigate to your share right click on it and go to properties then select the sharing tab. You should see the share this folder is selected. Then click on the permission tab. If the everyone group is not listed add it with read or change permission. Never give the everyone full control of the folder. Let me know how you make out.

Exclamation your problem is IP address (I think )

Dear silvest,

you have IP problem, 192.168.0.1 can not be used as IP this is for gateway... try to change your PC1 IP to 192.168.0.3 and remain PC2 as 192.168.0.2, and setup both PC's gateway to 192.168.0.1, remain subnet mask as it is, restart both computer, see the result,,, if still have problem, try to use network diskette (you know how to do it) prepare an empty diskette and ......from
My netwrok places click "setup a home or small office network" and follow the screen letme know if you cant do it, then I will write each step of doing this, but first try to do it yourself... contact me from aslanemrah@yahoo.com....

regards
