Windows XP Pro wireless problem

Windows XP Pro recognizes that there is a wireless card in my PCMCIA slot but the computer says that it is disconnected when I go into pcconfig/all. XP attempts to connect to the wireless router but never does because the hardware is say it is disconnected. HELP
