Wireless - 2 AP's
Ey Guys. I'm having problems with wireless networking, at home.
Because our house is so long, and so many rooms/walls, it made sense to get 2 access points, put one at one end of the house, and one at the other. I've got one netgear MR-814 wireless router and one just normal AP.. one of those 'no brand' ones you pick up for cheap. What happens is, the clients always try to connect to the netgear wireless... never the other one. Even if you have a 100% connection to the no brand ap, and only a 2% connection to the netgear... The client will STILL try to connect to the netgear, and end up constantly dropping out all the time which is a newsence. What i'm really asking is, how do you set up home networking using 2 access points, and allow the clients to connect to the stronger one, depending on their area. So, if someone was walking from one end of the house to the other with their laptop or something, it would start connected on the front AP, and when they moved to the back of the house, it would connect to the back AP automatically, without the user really noticing.. Both ap's have the same SSID's, and i havn't been using WEP at the moment because it could be a problem. They're also both on channel 6... I dont know if my setup's are right? Anyone got some ideas? Thanks! ![]() |

So you have a patch cable from the wireless routers switch port to the access point at the other side of the house?
If not your AP has no connection to the router. It's just "out there" doing nothing. |

Yeah of course...
We used to have a wired LAN. So I just plugged the front AP into one of the wired ports... It's all connected right, if the netgear AP is completely out of range, then the clients will connect and work using the front AP |

What mode have you set each router into ... cause sometimes some modes are proprietary to the manufacturer ... the one that would solve your problem is that of "repeater mode" on the access point !!!
