I have successfully shared my cable internet to all of the following computers, and now I am trying to tackle file sharing for these computers:
Comp. 1 is XP pro and connected directly to the B router and Cable modem through an ethernet cable Comp. 2 and 3 are ME and wirelessly connect to my wireless B router and cable modem Comp. 4 is XP home and connects wirelessly to my wireless B router and cable modem Problem: Comp. 4 recognizes all computers and all computers recognize it for file sharing Comp. 2 & 3 recognize each other and computer 4 for file sharing – but not computer 1 Comp. 1 recognizes computer 4 for file sharing- but not 2 or 3 Please help me through any general ideas or personal experience you may have in regards to this problem. Thanx. |

enable the guest accounts on the XP boxes with no password. Create and logon the ME boxes with guest and no password.
Each machine should have something shared like a folder with no $ in the name. Logon to every pc as guest. See if you can browse to all machines from all machines. If you can't browse try using command line and net use [drive letter] \\machinename\sharename to see if you can map a drive to the share. Report back any issues you run into. |

Just to add something to what wanderer2 said. You don't have to use the guest account, but make sure your accounts have the same username and password. For example, on the XP machine, don't have a username with Edwin and a password set to 'password' and then on the ME machines have a username of Edwin without any password. Like this, you will not be authenticated so you won't be able to browse the file shares.
In Windows Explorer, if you type "\\computername" (without the quotes), replacing computername with the name of the other computer, what do you see? Do you get any error messages? |

Sorry
Sorry about the delay, i finally figured out my problem and it was simply an IP address conflicts occuring, both from my networking equipment defaults and my 3 neighbors which had also went wireless w/o my knowledge.
so i went from ME to XP on one computer, reconfigured IPs, enabled WEP, and made my network stationary. thanx |
