This is my problem:
For the longest time on my network it was just my computer, and my other one. Mine was wireless, and the other one wired from the modem/router. Then my sister and parents got their own laptops and have started to use the wireless signal i was, thus making mine drastically slower. In my mind, to fix this problem i had to buy a new router, or a range booster (seeing my signal is pretty weak, like two-three out of five bars, sometimes one). I didn't want to do anything without actually knowing the proper solution. I have: D-link Wireless Router, With like 54 MB/s speed and D-Link Wireless Desktop Card Anyone know what I should do? Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance. :] |

Welcome to DevShed.
So your wireless signal has actually decreased since new wireless nodes have been added? Or the bandwidth has slowed? Does this happen only when you're all using the internet at the same time? What speed connection do you have? Do all nodes on the network have unique IP addresses?

Thanks. :]
Okay, well here's the situation. I was playing Star Craft and using Skype at the same time. Everything was running beautifully, no lag, nothing. Then my sister turned on her laptop and I started to lag and had to close Skype. Minutes before she got on, this wasn't the case. Just want to know how i can solve this problem. Thanks! :] |

Its your bandwidth, not your wireless signal. Sounds like shes downloading/streaming some stuff thats peaking out your connection.

She claimed to be only running Msn Messenger but I know she wasn't.
This is probably a dumb question but, is there any way i can increase my bandwidth? Or some how get it so doesn't slow down my connection. Last edited by HarblKipz : April 22nd, 2008 at 02:38 PM. Reason: Forgot something |

Absolutely. It's called money. Throw some at your ISP. ![]() Quote:
That's a different animal altogether, something I discussed recently in this thread. Realistically, you'll have to decide between using Skype, gaming, sharing the internet connection with your family. You can only fit so much in that little pipe, unless of course you go with option #1 and pay out for more bandwidth and higher end equipment. |

This may be a fix for you problem.
Since Im not allowed to give you a link!!!!! Go to Tiger Direct Dot Com Look for the D-Link DGL-4500 Xtreme N Gaming Router Watch the video. TD is claiming that this router will make a game more of a priority and slows everyone else down. Just a thought. |
