Wireless LAN - flunctuating / low connection speeds

I have just installed a Linksys wireless-B router and am connecting to it using a Dynamode PCMCIA card with Realtek 8180 chipset.

I am getting a poor signal wherever I go in the house, even when the laptop is very close to the router.

The connection strength fluctuates wildly from 20% to 80%, averaging around 50%.

I have tried channels 10 and 11 and no difference.

There is a cordless phone nearby, but it is not digital and doesn't transmit on 2.4Ghz.

Can anyone suggest reasons why I might be getting such a wildly fluctuating signal?

There is a large TV in the same room as the router, could this be causing a problem?

Many thanks for any help you can provide...

Andrew

Have you tried a firmware upgrade for the Linksys?
