Unhappy Wireless LAN Problem

I'm having some major problems with my Wireless Setup. I have 2 XP Pro's running on a Desktop and a Laptop. Desktop is using a CNET CNWL-311 PCI Card, and my laptop is using a CNET USB Dongle.

Now, both cards are communicating fine, signal levels are Excellent, but I cannot get the both of them to ping. Both are not firewalled, and using static IP addresses. I've tried using both static and dynamic addresses, stilll the same problem.

When wireless statistics, both indicate packets transmitting and receiving.

both machines can connect using a normal wired LAN, but when I swap the LAN card with the Wireless, everything stops.

Any help appreciated, thanks in advance.

Mike

On each of your cards be sure and check these few things:

1. RTS Threashold

2. Channel

3. SSID

4. Fragmentation

5. Check you AD-HOC or AP setting, if you dont have a seperate access point then you will be using the AD-HOC setting

6. Also make sure, if you are using this, to have your WEP keys set up as the same.

Insure that these match on all your wireless clients and you should be routing fine.

Thanks for the tip, man.

Ok here's my checklist ...

1. RTS Threshold is the same on both sides

2. Channel is the same

3. SSID ... also the same

4. Fragmentation ... check

5. Set to Ad-Hoc .. both sides

6. No WEP keys on both sides, no encryption

It appears to be the configuration program that came with card, because with it installed, windows networking could not find a wireless network. But, when I uninstalled it, Windows found a network, successfully connected to it, but still could not ping.

I tried with USB Wireless on both sides, everything was fine. I'm thinking it could be a driver issue. We'll see. ...

Thanks anyways Rigas.

I know what your saying with the drivers of a USB wireless device.

I had a USB wireless client that would route slower than a 56k dial up on a 100mbit LAN. Once I uninstalled the USB drivers and hooked it up straight cable, the system routed fine.

But the USB device back on, slow route.

SO I understand about the driver issue.
