Question Wireless Networks WEP vs WPA

Greets

I am extremely new to networking overall, and recently got a wireless router for use in my home.I already setup a secure network using WEP keys and just noticed the option for WPA.

I was wondering what the difference is,and which would be better for a home(non-buisness) user like myself.I have noticed that a few of my neighbors also have wireless networks(their networks show in my "Available Networks" window) and I am slightly conserned with the possibility of one of my neighbors "hacking" my network and stealing my bandwidth.

Any advise you could offer would be greatly appreciated, since as you can tell,I am one of those "paranoid" noobs

I've done a bit of looking around for you, and I think the following sites would be useful for you to look at:

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/W/WEP.html

http://www.webopedia.com/TERM/W/WPA.html

http://techrepublic.com.com/5100-6265-5060773.html

http://www.microsoft.com/WindowsXP/...an/03july28.asp

After reading those through, you'll have a better understanding of wireless security. WPA was created after WEP as a technology with better security features, so if you've got the option, I'd use it.

wep vs wpa

For a good comparison between wep & wpa take a look at the following article:

WPA vs WEP: Why is WPA better than WEP?

If you can, go with WPA.

Er this thread is quite old now...

And it's also interesting to see that you're one of the founders of that website... nice to do a bit of advertising of articles, eh?
