The modem wants to be connected to the router, not the computer.

Okay. Has the upstairs PC successfully been able to contact the router for an IP address? If you click Start, Run and type cmd. Then, in the Command Prompt type "ipconfig /all > C:\ipconfig.txt" (without the quotes) then copy the contents from the C:\ipconfig.txt file into your next post.

I'm guessing that the computer won't have a good IP address, but I'll check first.

..as before my upstairs wireless card has found the router which is hardwired to downstairs pc..but am at a loss ere what ive/son's done to lose connection..appreciative of your help.Kevin

It appears that the computer hasn't been able to contact the router to obtain an IP address, because it has the address 169.254.245.90. So, try disabling any security features (encryption for example) and move the computer very close to the router. You need to get the router to give an IP address to the computer. To check if it's a wireless problem, you could try connecting the computer with a cable to the router. If you still don't get an IP address, then it's a router problem, but I'd guess that since the other computer still works, it's a problem with wireless. Worth checking anyway though.
