Wireless router help!

Help!! here's the situation.. I have network setup between 8 computers on a Router, and also have a wireless router connected to it (linksys wrt54g) providing internet connection. All worked perfectly until someone reset the wireless router to defaults.. On the LAN settings the IP's are typed in manually and not obtained automatically. Now after the wireless router has been reset to defaults, the user has to go into the lan settings and select "obtain ip addresses automatically" to gain access to the internet but loses the ability to use the network. Does anyone know the proper settings for my router to work properly on the network, and provide internet access?

We call that putting in a static ip which you should only have to do once on the pc.

You need to go into the wireless router and turn off the dhcp server and then set the lan ip [internet gateway] ip to that of your static entry concerning gateway.

In other words you have manually put in ips in your pcs. What is the gateway ip you put in? Put that ip in the lan side of the internet router.

Thanks for the reply.. I might have confused things a bit. Before this happened the ips didn't have to be entered, but now they do, and to connect online, they have to be removed.

That's because the Linksys's Ip address is reset to 192.168.1.1 (the default Linksys router IP) AND re-enabled DHCP as DHCP is ON by default in a linksys router. So the only way they can reach the internet is to get an IP adress on the same subnet as the router...

1) Disconnect the Linksys from your network.
2) Connect your PC directly to the Linksys (in 1 of the switch ports..NOT the 'Internet' port)
3) Set your PCs adapter properties to have an IP address of 192.168.1.2 and Subnet mask to 255.255.255.0 (you can leave the gateway and DNS emty for now).
4) Open IE (or any browser) and enter in the URL http://192.168.1.1 and a login prompt should appear.
5) Default username is: admin and default password is: admin

You should then be brought to the setup screen. If you require each PC to be statically set, disable DHCP. If you want your PCs on the old subnet, assign the router a new IP address (you will then have to change your network adapter properties again..if the router is set to 192.168.10.1 change your PCs adapter to 192.168.10.2) and setup your internet info and wireless settings...
