Hello , I am a newbie in networking , I have read some stuff about it , but till now i do not know what is the meaning of a router ??
is it a hardware " mostly like a modem " ?? or it is a computer machine " mostly like a gateway" ?? or it is a software built on a computer ??

you are complicating things to much. a router is a device that connects and forwards packets between LANs- period.

routers are gateways and use to be called gateways before they where named routers.

it can be a PC, a server, or an appliance like a cisco router ( an appliance is a stripped down PC that has a specialized operating system specificly for that function thats it nothing fancy about em).
