XP vs. Win2K Pro
We are a small nonprofit and I am having problems settinp a peer-to-peer network with one desktop serving as the file server.
We have: 7 Win2K Pro, P3 Desktops 2 Win2K Pro, P3 Laptops 1 WinXP Home, P4 Desktop (acting as central file server) And I am looking to add two more WinXP Pro desktops this week. We are having connectivity issues to the file server. I just recently migrated all of our files from an old Win2K box to the new XP machine, but these issues never came up when the server was on the old Win2K box. Should I have left the server on a Win2K machine, or is there something I can do in XP to fix the max number of users? Please advise. Thanks! |

You are limited to 10 peer to peer connections. This is hard coded. If you want more you have to buy server and client access licenses. How do you think BillyBob got so rich? XP home can not join a domain and I would never recommend it for a server. It is a 98/Me replacement fyi.

Windows XP is not made for a business network as stated it can not join a domain and security is jacked. Please remove from a business environment.
