XP, XP, 2000pro and a Hub!

Ok, this has been frustrating me for months.
We have 2 main computers, both on XP home.
One is connected to an NTL television box through which we get broadband internet. The NTL box is connected via the USB port.
Both are connected to a hub.
File sharing, and internet sharing between them is fine.
however, i wish to add a 3rd computer to the network.
I started off with Win98 2nd edition. (Which was set up as a dual boot with Suse Linux) But the other computers could not see it, and it could not see the rest of the network (In windows, have not tried linux yet). So, i reinstalled the dual boot with the same version of linux, and win2000 pro. Now the XP machines can see the 2000 box as an icon in the 'workgroup' folder. But when i click on it it says the path cannot be found.
The 2000 box cannot ping the XP's, or vice versa. The light on the NIC on the 2000 box is on, and the same applies to the HUB.
Ive tried all the trouble shooters etc. but no luck.
I believe i have set all the IPs up correctly. (192.168.0.x)
But have no idea what to do with DNS etc. so have left them as default.
On the XP computer connected to the Internet i have Nortan fire wall, but that is configured to allow home networking.
Any help? :s

one last point.
when i try to ping on the internet computer.
i can ping the ova XP machine.
also 127.0.0.1 works.
however. i cant ping 192.168.0.1 (its own address)
i get request timed out.
i appreciate any feed back. thanx
