Does anyone know if i can use this as a NAS device

Didn't see much in the way of SMB (Windows) support. Does look like it can send messages via quite a few apps such as SNMP, email, messenger programs, etc... It does have an ethernet interface, and it supports a limited GUI for RAID setup/monitoring. Assign a static IP to it if you can and browse the IP in Windows Explorer (i.e., //192.168.1.1/) and see if you can view contents.

If the device doesn't support SMB (Windows sharing protocol) you probably won't be able to make it work. I didn't see anything in there when reading through the manual; so it may just be a big a$$ backup/storage device.

i have connected via telnet and have an configuration gui

when i try to connect via windows explorer i get 404 not found

doesnt look promising i will see what a nas enclosure or a 4 bay usb enclosure will cost and use the drives from this in it

this only ows me 50 os no real loss just the drives are worth that

    thanks for all the help

Yeah, the web interface it supports I think is just for RAID setup/monitoring...nothing more. Agreed though, the drives alone will be worth the price you paid; so definitely not a loss.
