I am in the elderly long term computer user group because my powers are diminishing rapidly. I want to know how to correct the LAN networking connection. I've read so much it is coming out of my eyes and still can't find short numbered actions to take.

I want an old 2005 Acer 3000 Aspire laptop to be able to print.

    Any help will be appreciated

More info is going to be needed to try to help you with this.
Besides the laptop, what hardware are you working with? [routers, switches, printers, etc.--pls give models if you can].

And, what, exactly, are you trying to accomplish [besides "want laptop to be able to print"].
Do you want to be able to print over the network?
Is the printer network-enabled to be able to print over network?
What OS is the laptop running?
Do you have proper drivers installed for the printer?...on your laptop?

Way too many unanswered questions to be able to help you as of now.

A printer needs to have a "Print Server" in order for it to take printing jobs over a network connection. Many times Windows PC and/or servers will have their print server used to spool the jobs. You can also purchase an appliance that can do the same thing. Here is one example.
