Portability of Oracle

Hi ya, (first post )

I've created my first database in Oracle 9i!I think i've got everything i need and hope the data types are correct!However, i need to be able to work in two different environments. One is a Windows XP machine and the other is Windows 2000. I've tried exporting the database using the 'exp' command but when i import it onto the Win2K machine, it will not work.
I know there is a way to do this by copying and pasting the SQL commands, but i am stuck as to how!!
Any help would be much appreciated

What is the error message?

How do you call EXP on the source and how do you call IMP on the target?

Which version of Oracle are you running on each machine?
Usually the EXP/IMP only works between the same version, or higher (8 -> 9 is OK, 9-> 9 is OK, 9 -> 8 is not OK

Both machines are running Oracle 9i. I cannot remember the precise error that was displayed as i am not currently using the Win2K machine. Will post it tomorrow!!
So, should this problem be happening or is it quite simple to transfer the database from one machine to another?

Hi, usually it's quite simple to "exp" from one platform (say Solaris) and import on another (say Windows).
You should post exactly what you are doing and the error you get.

is your user/schema name same on the both machine? if it is not then try that:

IMP username/password file=filename full=Y

here,
username = your user name
password = your user password
filename = nme of your dump file

No worries, managed to get it working today!!Had problems both exporting and importing it!
Oh well, people learn from their mistakes is all i can say!!On to developing some forms now
