VTO-4400 error

I installed the Oracle 8.1.7 on Windows 2000 server, but when I tried to connect to Oracle Management Server it didn't find the database just created, and I got the

VTO-4400 error: No database has been discovered. Please use the Enterprise manager to discover at least one database before starting the application.

I logged on OMS console : it was missing the database and the listener, however the node was available.

Any suggestion of how I should work around this problem. I need the OMS in order to use the Import utility to restore a database from a export dump file.

Thanks in advance,
Paul

Oms

Hi, 01miner;

Ensure that your Oracle Agent is started. This can be checked in the services window. Navigation is:
-->Start
-->Control Panel
-->Adminstrative Tools
-->Services

In addition, ensure that your UserId is a member of the DBA group.

Good Luck,

Rod

Hi Cetacean4,

Thanks for your reply.
I checked both conditions: the Agent service is running and the login used was the sysman one, who is a member of DBA group, isn't it.

As I mentioned, I need the OMS running for a Import job.

Actually, this is the second installation of the Oracle 8.1.7 on the same machine. With the first installation I didn't have this VTO-4400 problem, but I had problems with the Import utility. Therefore I uninstalled oracle, removed all files and registry entries for Oracle, reinstalled again: then I started to get the VTO-4400 error.

Any bells ringing, or other suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul

Lightbulb Need to DISCOVER a database

Hi, Paul;

The nature of your problem seems to be that there is no DB discovered by the Console. At a minimum, on database must be discoverd in order that Oracle DBA Applications, such as OMS, function. Using the Enterprise Manager Console discover at least one datbase. Give it try and you should then be well on your way.

Another suggestion may be that you validate your LISTENER lists the SID_NAME parameter for the ORACLE_SID that you're looking for.

Good Luck,

Rod

Thanks you all for your help!

I fixed the problem.

As I mentioned previously, I uninstalled Oracle from my server and reinstalled it aggain after I removed all Oracle entries from the registry, and all Oracle files from that machine. The only files that had any reference to Oracle were the actual Oracle 8.1.7 installtion files that I copied from the network to my computer. Then I remembered that I read somewhere that in order to re-install Oracle on a computer, you MUST remove all references to Oracle after the uninstallation. I moved the installation files back on the network, and Oracle was installed with no problems: database was available as well as the listener.

Cheers,

Paul
