Thanks for the link. There are a few issues with that link, the biggest one is that it says "JSON is a Java library". It might also be a Java library but, more importantly, it's JS Object Notation and implemented in many languages. It's hard to take that article seriously after such a big error.

Now that prototype has JSON support, I'll probably stick with it until I run into problems, if for no other reason than it's unclear whether other solutions would really be better. I've heard prototype makes some architecture decisions that can cause problems with other JS libraries but I mostly use my own and haven't run into those issues yet.

Dojo has a few issues for me that I haven't competely accepted yet:
  • it has a reputation for being big and slow.
  • you need Java Ant to compile a custom faster loading version for yourself
  • add-on libraries like Scriptaculous, Behaviors and Rico are designed to work with Prototype.
I was willing to look at Dojo to get built-in JSON but it doesn't look like a clear winner at the moment.

I havent tried ajax yet.. but i did read a security article about it.. it said something that I need to becareful when working with ajax.

only in so much as they could exploit any data they would get from loading the page in their browser normally...

Well it gives you a function, gives you 1 line to call it and then you just change what it does with it once it's returned.

I fail to see how it's hard?
