I am not very familiar with Eclipse. I have about 200-500 packages, which each containaround 50 files. I need to find a particular string in order to modify the code. I am having trouble searching through Eclipse. Is there a way that I could search multiple packages at once? If so, how would I do this?

I don't really understand what you are wanting to do. Multiple packages in a single editor maybe? look here if so.
