Showing local emails on a webpage ( was "Can this be done?" )

I am wanting to do something kind of strange.
I am wanting to display the number of mails and undread mails in my inbox on a web page. Is this possible and what programming language would it be? It will be for offline use so i dont need to worry about security.

I'd say it probably depends on your mail provider. Some of them are now providing rss feeds for your email. You might be able to use something like that.
