Linking MS Excel with Internet Explorer (or Mozilla Firefox)
Hi there,
I am facing a problem and think that you'll might just be able to help me out with the same. what i need to do is link MS Excel with Internet Explorer in a manner that the text present in the various cells of the excel sheet get highlighted on each and every page that is opened. What i actually want is that suppose there is a word "forum" in the excel sheet, now whenever the user opens any web page the word "forum" should be highlighted on each and every page that the user opens, even if the word appears more than once. I want the highlighting process to be automated in the sense that whenever the user clicks the "go" button the text gets highlighted in the new page. A friend of mine was trying to do it on html but then the problem that he faced was that this word "forum" would be present in the links as well and may not appear on the page but is present in the cache, so when you are actually trying to highlight the word "forum" the entire link gets changed and hence the web page would not open. I am not a techie and hence resorted to my friends help but then he seems to have hit a road block and says that doing this with html would not be possible and has advised me that this might just be possible with PERL or python.. Would really appreciate if you could help me with this!!! Anyways thanks for taking time off and reading this post!! Thanks. |

Why did you attach your post to this thread? It has nothing to do with the original subject at all. You should have just started a new thread with a new subject.
What you want could easily be done with javascript and css. |

I've split this off into a separate thread. In future please post a new thread for new topics, rather than continuing old threads with questions that aren't relevant to their content. Thanks.

Lemme get this straight.
1. You have an excel sheet containing a list of words 2. You have a web site with a bunch of web pages 3. You want to transform all the web pages so that certain words get highlighted on all the pages. And if I understand you correctly, your problem with a straight search-and-replace is that these words are sometimes within links (for instance, "forum" could be in a page as text, as well as in a link) and the instances that are in links should not be replaced because it breaks the link. If I've described your problem correctly, please let us know. It is very easy to do this in perl.
