I'm writing a chat script on a perl to run on web pages, and I have almost done the whole thing, except for booting a user out of the chat room if the user has done nothing for a certain amount of time.

I've thought of using JavaScript, but this whole concept is for caring accidents when a browser or pc freezes, thus client side is not the solution.

Is there any way I can set a timer on server side, and see if a user has sent actions or not in that time?
