To create a simple border select the Rectangular Marquee tool and draw a rectangle around your image. Then go to the menu Select-->Modify-->Border When the attribute box opens specify the border width and hit ok. Then you can fill it with your color or gradient.
Hope that helps, Cuda |

Using the border tool, you'll get a bit of feathering/anti-aliasing on the edges.
What you can do is make a new layer, then use the rectangular marqee to select the largest area you want bordered, fill it with the color you want the border to be, then shrink the border by 1 (Select > Modify > Contract) then fill the selection with the color you had before. Note: if the marquee occupies the entire layer, you won't be able to use contract, only border. So what you can do is hold down alt (with the marquee tool selected) to subtract 1 pixel from each edge, now you can contract. |

I would choose the background color as the color you want, then enlarge the canvas by 2 pixels all the way around. Instant border.

if your not gonna go crazy, then you can always just merge all your layers together (ctrl+shift+e) and create a 1px stroke on the inside of your image (in blending options).
If you wanna create a techy kind of border, try this.... this is my first attempt at create a tutorial, so sorry if it sucks Start by opening a background image of your choice. First Image Using the polygonal lasso tool, create a selection around the inside of your image. Holding down shift will allow you to create straight lines. Second Image Now press ctrl+shift+I to inverse the selection. Without deselecting, create a new layer on top of the current one. Fill this new layer with white. Third Image Press ctrl+D to deselect. Change the layer mode to Overlay and make the opacity 60%. Now add a stroke to this layer that is 1px thick, on the inside, and a color that matches your background. Click settings to view a screenshot of these settings and so far to see what your picture should look like at this point. Settings So Far That's it for the border. If you want to take it a step farther, add some text and a picture or two. Finished Product If you want a tutorial on how to make a similar background, just ask Hope you enjoy. It's my first tutorial, so tell me what you think. |

Oh, and by the way - the border that is on the image that you attatched was created by doing this:
1. Open your image and select the Rectangular Marquee tool. 2. Create a selection on the inside of your image. 3. Press Ctrl+Shift+I in inverse the selection 4. Create a new layer on top of the current one (don't deselect your selection). 5. Fill the new layer with whatever color you want (preferably a color that matches your image). 6. Press Ctrl+D to deselect. Under layer styles, select stroke. Make the stroke 1px in thickness, change the color to black, and change the positioning to inside. Tada! Border. Hope I could help ![]() |
