hi there,
open a new file...background contents...select transparent,
that will give you a tranparent background to type on.

Hi there,
I'm not 100% sure with Quark 6, but in the earlier versions you would have had to make your photoshop image an eps file with a clipping path.

Can Quark 6 handle a transparent/layered PSD file? Indesign 2 handles it no problem. If I don't want to use a PSD file, I usually use a layered tiff file with a transparent background. Files aren't as small as a flattened tiff file, but it gives me a lot of freedom to do what I want in Indesign.

A little off topic: How have you found Quark 6? I know a lot of people who were Quark mad, but have switched to Indesign because of a few problems as well as a few extra features in Indesign that weren't available in Quark on its release. Or they had to buy extra Xtensions etc.

Just interested in getting different perspectives on it.

Cheers

Hi all, thanks for the help. Got a couple logos up and running fine.

My take on Quark 6 (running on OSX) is that it is quite buggy, without substantial improvement from Quark 4. If I didn't have to move to Q6 at work I wouldn't do it. Over time I'm sure they will work out the bugs, but right now we pay the price. It is also a real slap in the face that 6 will not save back to 4, only 5, and that no older Xtensions work.
