Hello,
I get this message whenever I try to open a PS7.0 file. Strangely enough, this file I opened once with CS and it worked fine, I made some changes and saved it (shoulda saved copy) and now when I open it, you see the loading bar go right to the end, then an error message comes up: "Cannot complete request due to program error." The PSD opens fine in ImageReady. But I really need it in photoshop! I have tried alot of things to make it work, opening in IR then trying to switch to PS. Loading up PS7, saving it again, all with no luck. So I come here humbly, possibly searching for any type of help or guidance Hope everyone had an enjoyable christmas! |

It's possible that, by saving it in CS, you removed the ability to open it in 7.0. |

I've had that problem with a very large file. I opened it in Photoshop Elements 3 and reduced the size of it, then Photoshop CS would open it. So, it may be a memory issue. |

Hey guys, two questions:
1. Anyone found a workaround for this problem? I have work, *at work* that can't be completed because the psd can no longer be opened, and like PhilGrim, I tried the exact same things, and obviously met with the same results.. 2. How is it possible that this is happening? Anyone have a clue as to why this occurs in the first place? Any help would be fantastic! Thanks in advance! |

I'm posting this in case people in the future have this problem, and I'm posting it *here* because Adobe's FAQ section is harder to find than a needle in a haystack, and this forum comes up on page one of my searches everytime whenever I have a problem!
![]() The problem's cause is 100% unclear, and not even Adobe is going to take a stab at that one, as they claim that photoshop "just does some funny things sometimes"... that's why it costs over $1000 CAD... moving on from the bitterness, here's how to remedy the problem. For Photoshop Versions 6.0 and later: Hold down Alt, Ctrl, and Shift keys (Mac: Command, Option, Shift) while starting Photoshop. A dialog box will appear asking if you wish to delete the preferences file. This only caused photoshop to crash for me (on a pc), so here's what I did: *Note that this will rid you of all custom shortcuts, memory allocation, scratch disk choices, slice and guide options etc etc etc, so when you find the following file, just cut it out of the current folder and place it on your desktop or somewhere you'll see it, so that in case you need to, you can put it back in and make notes on how to get your prefs back the way they were. Search your hard drive for a *.psp file and delete it. It will be called something along the lines of "Adobe Photoshop X Prefs.psp". Under Win 2k/XP the preference file will be found at: %windir%\Documents and Settings\~username\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\[version #]\Adobe Photoshop [version #] Settings *Note: You need to set Window's Explorer Options to "View Hidden Files and Folders" to display the Preference file. Fortunately, this solved the problem for me, and unfortunately Adobe has done nothing to explain why this happens, but at least there's a (cruddy) way to remedy the problem, which in my case, saves me going back and redoing a few day's work! Hope this helps anyone else having this problem! |
