Crop tool won't let me crop

Hi,
I am having a problem with the crop tool. It will not crop the area I want; it goes to a point and stops. It's as if it has a mind of it's own and I can't direct it. I thought it might be the mouse so I took it apart and cleaned it, and then I put a different mouse in. It still does the same thing.

Anyone have any idea what's causing this, and how to fix it??

Thanks

Your description is vague, but here are a few places to look. You should always describe which version you're using so we can better pinpoint the problem.

1. On the top, are there any values set in the Height or Width box? If so, clear them if you want to free-crop.

2. Look at View > Snap. There's a possibility that it's turned on, meaning that it will snap to the nearest object, "like it has a mind of it's own."

Thanks for your help!! I cleared the values and now it works.

Btw, I am using Photoshop CS. I apologize for not being clearer. Thanks again for your help.
