    Cropping, can't crop out background

When I try to crop a triangle using the rectangular marquee tool and after that used the magic wand tool, it crops down the image in a square with the length of one side of the triangle. When I use the crop tool, I get a square that is cropped to my desired square. I am trying to crop out all the black around it which I plan to use it as an image for a rollover menu for my website. I am using Photoshop CS5. I would like to attach images but don't know how on this site. Any methods to perform cropping everything but the white bordered triangle?

Not sure i understand your post, Are you trying to remove the background color from around the triangle?

sounds like you're trying to do this off a Background layer. you'll need to duplicate your layer and that will allow you to crop it down then Wand out the black, leaving your triangle. if you then duplicate that layer to a new document you can save it off as a PNG (to keep the transparency).
