Question de-pixelling? Image example here...

Hi, I'm having a hard time smoothing the edges to my logo for my website...

Attached are images:
pixels.bmp - what I've got
nopixels.bmp - what I want.

How do I create the smoothness?

Any help will be appreciated!

Thanks.

well how did you do the second pic?

do the same thing you did to make the attachments!!

if you didnt make the attachemnets then i would say lightly use the blur tool around the edges that are sharp.

also i dont know if a BMP is the best format for this image..

try out the blur tool though

I actually started off with "nopixels.bmp" and pixelated it to get a clean gradient over a particular area of the picture... now that I have applied the gradient, I want to smooth out the edges to the way it was... it you get what I mean!

Ta.

Well, if you want the edges in the first and the gradient in the second, try this:

Make a new RGB document the same size as the two you currently have. Drag the content's of your current files into new layers in the document. Put the original on the bottom layer and your pixelated version on the top. Then just use a small (soft edged) eraser to erase the edges on your pixelated version.

What you have bellow it should automatically show through and you'll retain the parts you like of each.

The difference is how they were created.

The nopixels.bmp was created in RGB (or CMYK). The pixel logo was changed. Either it was altered in Paintbrush, or the mode was changed to Indexed colors.

The difference is that there's no shading on the nopixels. Everything is pure bitmap - meaning that it's one of 4 colors (gray, white, green, black).

If you zoom in on the edges, you'll see what I'm talking about. There's no blending. Someone found an image they liked and used a cheap program (again, I'm looking at you, PC Paint) and tried to alter it or resave it.

Smile

Hey, toots82,
Try to trace the image using Adobe Streamline (or something like it) ..... then optimize the shapes....and back to Photoshop :-))

Feel free to visit www.edynamo.com for more web design info.

Cheers,
Fader

Could one of the blur filters work? Not exactly sure which blur (if any) would work the best. I just reformatted and haven't gotten a chance to install PS again, so I can't check myself yet.

Food For Thought...

Hello,

Always make a copy of your origianal source image. Always duplicate your original layer(you can play around with it as much as you like and still have a backup layer).
Garbage/in/Garbage/out..it will rarely ever be as sharp as your origianal source image. Try to work in the JPG/Tiff/PSD formats if possible.
