Eliminating moiré patterns in scanned art

What are the options for eliminating (or minimizing) moiré patterns on scanned pictures from magazines?

The scanning software I use has the ability to set the LPI for the work you're scanning from. To get rid of moire, you need to make sure you scanning at the same LPI as the works, from memory I think magazine is about 150.
Bottom line check your scanning software.

    Scanner utilities

Anyone know of scanning utilities that can sense and adjust scanning resolutions to match screens?

An easy, sometimes effective fix, is to gaussian blur the image slightly and then use the unsharp mask filter to bring back detail. Messing with the dust and scratches filter can also be effective.
