fading an image

hi,

How can i make an image fade away, not blur , but fade/dim like you put a plastic sheet in front. I tried having it too bright but that did not look right ..........

Here are a couple of easy ways:

1. Simply lower the opacity level of the layer

or

2. Create a new layer above that layer, fill it with white, and lower the opacity level of the white layer.
