Filter problems

I'm having some weird problems with filtering. Let's take for example, I have a text layer. I then duplicate it, hide the original, and rasterize the duplicate. So that leaves me with the rasterized duplicate, and the original hidden (I keep it as a backup). Then let's say I want to apply wind or radial blur to this rasterized area. For some odd reason, when I apply the filter, it will apply the filter confined within the text's boundries. It acts as if I have the text selected and THEN apply the filter, but I don't. Anyone know why it would be doing this? I've also had this problem with other things I've made, like making a circle w/ the circle marque and the paint bucket. It'd do the same thing, apply wind only within the circle as if it was selected, but it isn't selected. I've also formatted since I first started having this problem, so I've had a fresh install and it still does this.

Any help would be MUCH appreciated! Or maybe another place I could post this problem... I really need a solution

Here's an example:

Circle before wind (circle is on a diff layer than black bg):

Circle after applying wind to its layer:

The wind should extend beyond the circle...

Are your layers grouped? Make sure that your filtered layer is not grouped with your backup layer. Can you take a screen shot of your layer pannel?

Here's the layer panel for the circle. Thanks for the welcome

Nothing peculiar... but why is it not applying wind beyond the circle?!? AHH!

I do know some filters don't work to add pixels to the transparent part of the layer, but Wind is not one of them.

However, there's one way to get the effects you want. Wind tends to make the image LIGHTER by adding motion trails, so all you need to do is to make the background DARKER than the foreground and apply Wind to a non-transparent layer.

First, flatten the image (or, Layer>New>Background via Layer turn the layer to the background layer), Invert the image, apply Wind, then Invert the image back.

The best way to do it is to make a white ball against black background, and convert the Wind outcome into a channel, which you may load as selection and then fill the selected area with any color in a new layer.

Try doing this

1. Extend the "width" of your circle.
2. Try applying the WIND filter in that layer.
3. And that's it.

I'll post some graphical explanation about this one in the future. Keep in touch
