Going crazy trying to get colors to match jpg on png

I've dealt with this issue forever and I still don't know WHY it happens. The problem is that when you create two images of different formats (jpg, gif, png) in photoshop with the same color and then put them next to each other in a browser, the colors no longer match.

Take a look at the banner at the top of the page here: http://forums.dubr.com/

I've made everything a PNG with the exception of the car which is a JPG (for obvious reasons).

Notice that the the tiled background png colors DO NOT match the jpg image of the GTI. Its browser dependant... in Safari the colors match perfectly.
In everything else they're not even close.

Take a look at the attachment for a comparison.

If I open both images (the png and the jpg) in photoshop and use the color sucker, they give the same exact hex code. notice that the body of the page matches the jpg and not the png... the body is using a hex value for its color.

how can i get around this??

Its not a photoshop issue,,

thats a PC setting issue. The PC you are view it on looks like its been set to 256 colors or something.

I'm viewing the same picture with the colors matched perfect from both IE and Firefox on a PC!

colors are not websafe, i guess i should have thought about that.

its not a color depth setting, both computers were set to millions of colors - plus you can see a problem in safari and not in firefox and they are on the same exact machine. I'm guessing it has something to do with the PNG library thats used in the different applications since the PNG doesn't match the BG color of the page and the JPEG does.

Seems pretty ridiculous that at this day and age we still have to deal with issues like this....

Well as I explained over I dont have an issue with that picture.. ODD!! Have you looked at the site from another pc ? It could be just a "really" wierd setting on that computer! Hopefully its only on THAT one computer,, and the rest of the world (like on my computer) sees it perfectly!
