gradient photoshop tutorials/examples?
are there any good photoshop tutorials on the web that someone can point me to?
thanks what i'm trying to do is use a gradient. i want one side of the gradient to be one color, then the other side to be clear with no color and/or have an image on that other side kinda like the example image that is provided below. if anyone knows how to do that or if you know of a tutorial that can explain that, then that would be great. thanks http://wootenmedia.com/pshop/example.jpg

It's easy, you don't need a tutorial. You didn't say which version of PS you're using so I did my example from 5.5 instead of CS2 because not a lot of people have that yet.
All you have to do is select the gradient tool, then look over on the other side until you find the gradient options and pick 'foreground to transparent'. Easy breezy. |

i am using photoshop 7.0. do you set forground to transparent in 7.0? if so where? or do you do something different in 7.0?
thanks |

yup, select your 'gradient' tool ('g'), and up top, 2nd box in from the left, click that open. 'foreground-transparent' is the 2nd selection in. pick your foreground colour, and then just drag the gradient over where you want it. may take some playing with to get right, but it's not too tough. hope that helps.

thanks, i got it working, this is how i did it and it worked....
Pick your forground and background colors on one layer. Make your gradient just one solid colour. On one end, set the Fill to 0%. then double click that layer with the gradient in it to bring up the layer style dialog box, go down to gradient overlay, then click on the gradient, then (click)set forground to transparent in gradient. |

There are alot of different ways to do the same thing in PS, but it sounds like your way is harder than mine. ![]() |

I have a simlar question to the original one i posted...
is there a way to accomplish the same thing using two images? instead of using one side as a color and the other side an image, is there a way to put two images together without using color gradients? thanks |

yes,
what you're looking to do requires a 'layer mask'. pick the image you want to blend into the next one, and place it on a layer above. apply a 'layer mask' to that layer. then, simply use the 'foreground-transparent' gradient tool (as above), and apply it on the layer mask. that's it. you'll probably have to play around with it. hope that helps! |
