Can anyone tell me how to change a photo to black and white but leave a handband in the photo in color? I just can't quite figure it out! Thanks in advance!

Create a new Hue/Saturation adjustment layer (that's the button with the circle where half of it is black and the other half is white) then bring the hue and saturation right down (in the window that pops up when you click that the button). Then use the eraser tool over the parts you want in color.

Another approach would be using the pen tool to 'select' the area you want to keep as colored (or if you want to modify that coloring too... like 50% saturated etc.), then right click in the selection and choose 'layer via copy'. that new layer will be specifically that cutout to hover over the main image. now select the main image layer, and modify it's hue/saturation to nil to omit it's coloring, and the layer above will retain it's color.
you now then can select that above layer (that handband that you cut out and layer-via-copy) and you can then choose to modify that if so desired. -Sel |

Another one:
1. Use the pen tool make a selection of the handband 2. Create a new layer 3. Right click inside the shape and choose the path as vector mask. If the option is not visible press "A" on your keyboard, right click inside the shape and then choose vector mask 4. Use the rectangle tool (letter "U" in your keyboard) to create a sqare around the image you are working on 5. Fill it with black (press "D" on keyboard and press ALT + Backspace) 6. Change the layer style to "Color". All Done !!!! ![]() |

you got plenty of options with this one..
n most have been provided to you.. the lightning fast way.. providing you only want a simple result.. CRTL+J .. for a duplicate layer (always keep an original) select you area.. via pen tool.. lasso.. magic wand.. (your choice) when selected.. CRT+SHIFT+I ... to invert the selection. CTRL+SHIFT+U ... to desaturate all (execpt what you isolated.) but for full control.. CRTL+J (twice for two new duplicates) desaturate the second... (ctrl+shift+u) add a layer mask to your second.. (makin sure its the top layer) press "D" if colours aren't default.. and with a soft brush.. paint on the area u want in colour.. (all you are doing is deleting a hole in the black & white one to show through the coloured one.. black removes.. white adds) this way will give you a better result.. and gives more control. |
