Help opening an EPS file
I am trying to open an EPS file in photoshop. It was only around75k o the floppy but when I try to open it in photoshop it displays a window titled "Rasterize generic EPS format" It then shows the following details.
Width 7431 pixels Height 12644 pixels Resolution 72 pixles Image size 268.8m If I try to open the image at this time it takes forvever and eventually everything freezes. If I try to open the image at a lower width and height it opens really small then when I zoom in its all blurred. Im sure there is a correct way to do this but I dont know how to. ANyone have an idea?? |

Well, for one, it sounds like it's something outside of Photoshop that's causing the freeze. It's quite possible that your computer can't handle that much data being translated through ps, however, I think that your file is corrupted, a decent quality jpeg that's about 1200x1600 could be 75k,
and for a file that is 7431px x 12644px... 268.8 mb's is the size of a blank file... ie, click new set the px rez and you'll see... Sounds corrupted to me!

If I cut back on the res the file does open but displays the logo really small on the far right hand side of the image window with a transperant background. If I crop that section and then try to enlarge the file it comes out blurred and with large pixels. I did manage to open it right once but I cant remember what I did to get it to open properly.

If you have access to Illustrator or Freehand, try opening in either of those, then copy the logo and paste into a Photoshop Document at the size you need it.
If you do open it in Illustrator, try doing a 'Select all' and see if only the logo is selected or whether the bounding box is selecting something off to the left hand side. If it is, then delete the non required item, save, and open in Photoshop. |

EPS Problems
Try opening your file in Illustrator or any application that can open a vector art graphic file. Once it's open copy it, then go back to photoshop creat a new image, photoshop will automatically seize it to the size of the original eps file, DO NOT CHANGE THE RESOLUTION SIZE this is very important, press ok and past it in. Your problems sems that the eps file that you have could be an older version of posrcript, and sometimes Photoshop has a hard time opening those.
I hope this solves your problem Steph P.S if your not satisfied whit the sharpness of the E.P.S. file in photoshop, or need to bump up your image to 300 dpi. post a nother forum, I'll try to look out for it. And I'll give you the trick you need to know to fix that little delima ![]() |

There's a difference between Vector and Raster art. Vector art is pretty much just a series of mathematical equations. The file sizes are almost always smaller, always look better and act differently. Raster art is like a photo - it actually sets pixel dimensions which it must then conform to. What you're trying to do it to take a piece of vector art and transform it into a 268 meg file. It's going to take a LONG time to rasterize, and if you save it, you've destroyed your beautiful vectors. Use Illustrator to handle vector art, unless there's a specific reason you need to use Photoshop. |
