How do i shrink images

I am trying to create a banner. But i have some big images how do i shirink them. Or i already created a banner but when i created it in photoshop it looked small. But after i saved it and looked at it, it was really big. So i can i shrink it so i dont have to create it all over. Or how do i shrink images.

Okay, I'll help you. We'll start from the beginning:

1. Open a new image (ctrl + n) and enter the desired banner width and height. So, if you need a 468w by 50h banner, you should set this here. Make sure pixels are selected and the background is white (you can change the background color later if need be).

2. Create a new layer (shift + ctrl + n)

3. Open up the car image and make sure it's set to RGB (Image > Mode > RGB.

4. Click this image and drag it over to the banner you're working on.

5. Resize the image (ctrl + t) to the size you want. If you want it to resize proportionately, hold down the shift key while you size it up.

6. You can move this image around by clicking the Move Tool (V).

7. Follow steps 3 through 6 for other images.

8. Add text by clicking the T tool (T) and enter the desired info.

9. Save the image as a psd first (ctrl + shift + s) and then save it as a jpeg or gif (ctrl + shift + alt + s).

That's it.

If I were you, I would save the image as a psd right from the beginning and continue doing so while making the banner, at every step.

You may resize your image into a smaller one and it will still look good.

Resize your image into a larger one, your image will start getting messy, dithered and ugly or whatever it is depending on your resize level.

Sardonyx, do you just reply to every topic to up your post count? You are not helping anyone in any of these forums. The question is not what will happen if you take a small image and make it larger, nor the effect of shrinking a large image to a smaller one. The question was How do I shrink an image?

As for COolMan: When you were working on your banner you may have has your pixels set to a larger rate then 72dpi which is why when you looked at it afterwards it was a lot bigger. When creating images for the web you should set your pixels to 72dpi. Another setting you might want to look at when creating images to make sure you're viewing it at the right size would be View > Actual Pixels. When working on print, View > Print Size.
