How do I soften the edges of my jpeg?
Hi
I'm sure this can't be difficult but I am new to Photoshop and don't really understand the terms used in the Help. To save time can anyone please explain how I go about softening the edges of my jpeg? Is this the same as 'blurring'? tia shay |

If I'm understanding the question correctly...
Select the portion of the image you'd like to be the edge (using any selection tool)... Invert the selection (Control-Shift-I). From the "Selection" menu, choose feather. Start with 5 pixels, and experiment up and down from there. Then you can either fill it with the color you want as your background, delete it if the image you're softening is on its own layer... Several methods. I know you didn't ask for this, but it's never a good idea to to manipulate JPG's. Always save as PSD first, and keep a copy of that PSD. Otherwise, as you continue to make changes down the road, you'll just keep re-compressing that JPG over and over and over, degrading the quality. |
