Is this possible?

I have a crap load of photos I need to edit for a client....

It will take hours to do this manually, I was wondering if there was a way to setup a tool to do most of this manually?

For example, start by opening all the images in a given directory,

Reduce them to 72 dpi

Set width down to 300px and have it automatically constrain the proportions of the image(s)

Save the new image for the web using a set .rss file

Is this possible? If so, how? If not, why not!?!

Yeah, it sure is. I wouldn't use photoshop though. There are some open source programs that you can use, setup a .bat file in the directory, and it'll do it for ya. I know this because I installed a photogalley on my server, and it came with it.

SPGM is it I belive, google it.

As another option, you could use Photoshop's "Actions" pallete. You could record a series of steps, like you listed, and save it as one action, then run that action on an entire folder of images.

I did that once when I had to convert about 200 book cover images to go online and it worked pretty well. The freeware programs work well too.

Yeah thats what I was going to say......create an action

I make avatars for another message board for a billion people and one task that I find myself always doing is resizing an image to 90x90 pixels.
Now I just have to press F2 and it will do it for me.
Actions are really easy to set up. Just click on the action tab and either create a new 'set' or leave it in the default, press record and away you go.
Just make sure you remember to stop recording.
This site has some instructions on setting up actions:

yes its totally possible...dont no about that actions stuff though...try using the batch automation feature in the file menu

i dont have the ol pshop on this comp in front of me but it will let you do most of what you are asking automatically...pull from a directory asks you where to put hte new ones and then you set the size, etc. and then boom! sit back and relax.

it ll do it all for you.

i ll try to post back later if you dont figure it out already

good lcuky and rock on!!
